Testimonials

Moments of Truth are spotlights on employees that have demonstrated exceptional acts that go above and beyond their expected roles or duties.

Ms. Camp became a resident at Lemon Grove following a series of dreadful events. The complication began after she sustained a puncture wound in her left foot. Without medical insurance, Ms. Camp treated it herself and her wound became infected, then gangrenous. When she finally went to the emergency room, it was too late and her left foot was amputated.

With temporary emergency inpatient insurance in place, Ms.Camp was admitted to Lemon Grove. Her rehabilitation went well, yet without resources for equipment, she was concerned that she would never be able to return home. The treatment and care she received from the staff didn’t stop when Ms. Camp was feeling better. Several department heads and Rob, the administrator, spent time energy, and resources to ensure that Ms. Camp could indeed live in her home again. After a home evaluation was completed by the occupational therapist, several ideas were formulated. First, they found a wheelchair and gave it to Ms. Camp. Adapting the front doorway for wheelchair use, modifying the bathtub for access, training Ms. Camp to use a special technique to get into the bathroom and adding a transfer bench were also on their list of caring deeds. In late January, Ms. Camp left Lemon Grove to live at home.

This team lives the words above and beyond.

Kris Diver is Admissions Coordinator at Lemon Grove Care & Rehabilitation Center. She cares deeply about providing a warm and inviting home for staff and residents, and has worked tirelessly to achieve her goal. She has searched paint, bargain, hardware and craft stores for just the right items to decorate the lobby area and resident’s rooms. Having chosen all the right materials, Kris decorated a ‘model’ resident room and then proceeded to decorate several more. She also magically refurbished the dining room and at least one office.

The colors and carefully chosen accessories have made such a difference and are enjoyed by residents, staff and visitors.

Thank you, Kris!

Lemon Grove’s Social Services Director, Laura Gillissie worked with resident Earl Haberman as he made great strides recovering from quadriplegia. By the time he was able to get around in a wheelchair, Mr. Haberman told Laura that he would like to go home. Despite the fact that financial means were limited and health insurance not comprehensive, Laura found ways to help. Laura arranged for a hospital bed at home, a wheelchair, shower chair and Hoyer lift. Mr. Haberman was approved for curb-to-curb wheelchair transportation and provided with an in-home caregiver. In addition, Laura found a neighborhood physician who would accept Medi-Cal insurance.

Thanks to Laura, Mr. Haberman arrived home on December 21st, just in time for Christmas.
